3 Tips To Keep In Mind Before Buying a Second Hand HIAB Crane

HIAB crane parts and service

If you’ve been planning to buy a HIAB crane for your business, the idea of the second hand may also have crossed your mind.

And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with it.

Buying a crane anyway costs a fortune. There’s no reason why you must only buy a new one when you can find a great catch on a used machine.

Just that, as you start exploring your second hand prospects, there’s a bunch of things that you must keep in mind. Here, we are talking about three of them.

1. Has the Crane Been Regularly Maintained?

Even if the big parts don’t stop functioning in a crane, a number of minor issues may crop up.

This is because cranes are generally exposed to unfriendly weather and conditions. As a result, faults deteriorate quickly. Plus, improper lubrication can adversely affect the machinery.

So, to keep yourself safe from any unnecessary expenses and headaches that may crop up after you buy it, make sure that the crane has been maintained responsibly by the previous owner.

2. Check The Moving Parts for Wear and/Or Cracks

Cranes are machines, and like all other machines, their bodies can also develop cracks. However, that’s no excuse for you to buy a crane which’s body has any severe cracks.

To make sure that you don’t fall for such money pits, thoroughly check the crane’s moving parts for wear and cracks.

3. Make Sure That No Big Repairs or Part Replacements Are Pending

Many a time, owners decide on selling the crane after it has finished its first performance phase with the stock parts that came with the vehicle.

Do you know what this means?

In simple words, this means that anybody who buys a crane that has completed its first phase with stock parts will have to deal with a bunch of part repairs and replacements days after they purchase the vehicle.

And as it goes without saying, all of this will add significantly to the total cost of the crane that you just bought.

So, beware of such sellers. Before you pay for the crane, make sure that all the HIAB crane parts and service records are maintained, so you don’t have to keep shelling $$$.
